Sis, You've Got to Hustle Smarter...Not Harder!
After forever and a day we are finally about to be back on campus… well at least most of us. I don’t know about y’all, but I like to eat good and look good when I’m ‘outside.’ The Taurus energy in me takes over and I find myself not being able to say no to myself when I see something I like. So if you’re like me and like to spend money, here’s a few side hustles to keep you from living the broke college student lifestyle:
Hustle #1: Advertise-Wrap Your Car
This is probably the most slept on way to earn money. Companies will literally pay you to drive around with their logo on your car. Car advertisement companies mainly target people who drive for a living, such as DoorDash, Lyft, and Uber drivers. However, you can most definitely still apply if you don’t drive for a rideshare or delivery service. Most advertise wrapping companies even allow you to pick the company you want to advertise for. Don’t worry about the installation or removal of the wrap because most of the companies do it all for you. If you don’t want your entire car wrapped, some companies even have smaller ads for just your rear window that you can apply yourself. Hustle #2: Deliver Food on DoorDash, UberEats, or GrubHub
These companies literally have the fastest hiring process in the world. I started the application for DoorDash right after placing my noodles in the microwave and was hired before the noodles were done – true story. The best part about it is that you can basically work whenever you want, however much you want. Plus, you don’t have to request time off or work with aggravating managers or coworkers. Sounds like a win-win to me! One of the best things I loved about being a delivery driver is that I could continue working when I went home to visit my family if I wanted to. You can also have a friend or family member ride with you to keep you company. If you want this to be a consistent stream of income for you, I HIGHLY recommend that you only do so if you have strong self discipline because there is unlimited “time-off” and there’s no quota that you have to meet.
Hustle #3: Tutor
If you have the patience, you can definitely make a nice little bit of change tutoring other students. STEM majors, this is your chance to shine because the rest of us have no clue what we’re doing in those science or math classes. If you’re bilingual, this is also a great option since students are always looking to get out-of-class practice for oral exams. You can also tutor for grad school entrance exams like the GRE, MCAT, or LSAT, if you did well on any of them. If you really want to make bank, put together a group tutoring session so that you can get paid for multiple students at once.
Hustle #4: Babysitting, Pet Sitting, House Sitting… all the “Sittings”
It seems like everybody and they mama got a dog over quarantine. If you like pets (and know how to care for them), let your friends and family know that you are available to take care of their pets when they’re away. For babysitting, I HIGHLY recommend that you only do so if you have patience and can handle kids getting on their last nerves. I don’t care what their parent say, also assume the kids are going to act a fool because believing them when they say “you shouldn’t have any problems out of my child(ren)” is the #1 way to set yourself up. SOMEtimes the kids aren’t that bad, but please just be on the side of caution. House Sitting is also a good one. All you really have to do is water the plants and bring in the mail right…?
